PDP crisis: Don’t monitor Makarfi’s convention – Sheriff writes INEC

Factional National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, has asked‎ the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu to ignore the party’s national convention slated for August 17.

He said the commission should trash the letter written to it by the Sen. Ahmed Makarfi-led PDP Caretaker Committee in respect of the forthcoming convention.

Makarfi had written a letter to the commission, informing it of a proposed August 17, PDP national convention in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

The letter pointedly stressed that the only body that can call for and ratify activities culminating to a National Convention of the PDP, “is the National Executive Committee headed by Senator Ali Modu Sheriff as national chairman as enshrined in Article 31 (2)(a) of the Constitution of the PDP.

Reacting, however, the- Sheriff-led faction of the party asked the electoral body not to honour the invitation, arguing that he remained the authentic chairman of the former ruling party.
