PDP crisis: Dickson backs Secondus as party substantive Chairman

The Bayelsa State Governor, Seriake Dickson, has condemned the decision by former presidential aide, Ahmed Gulak, to forcefully declare himself as chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, party.

In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Daniel Iworiso-Markson on Saturday in Yenagoa, Dickson insisted that the PDP had only one National Chairman who is Uche Secondus.

Dickson disclosed that the PDP Governors Forum are of the stance that Secondus remain in the acting capacity until a new National Chairman emerges.

He, however, debunked reports of factionalisation within the PDP Governors Forum or change in the current leadership of the party.

According to Dickson, modalities are being put in place for the emergence of new chairman of the party in line with its constitution and as such, there would be no reason to have three chairmen running the party at the same time.

He said, “There can’t be a vacuum and as servants of the law, we must be seen at all times to be people who are duty bound to uphold the law and to do the right things at all times in the eyes of the law.”

Gulak had on Saturday informed the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, that he was now the National Chairman of the party, adding that he would not be worried if he was denied access to the Office of the National Chairman at the secretariat
