PDP crisis deepens as Makarfi supporters chase National Secretary out of secretariat

Confusion broke out yesterday at the National Secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, as loyalists to the head of the National Caretaker Committee, Ahmed Makarfi chased out the National Secretary of the party, Prof Olawale Oladipo out of his office.

The pro-Makarfi supporters who stormed the party’s headquarters as early as 7.34 a.m. protesting the takeover of the party’s leadership by its embattled leader, Sen Ali Modu Sheriff and some members of the dissolved National Working Committee, sacked during the party’s national convention in Port Harcourt, Rivers State on May 21, invaded the offices of the former National Secretary of the party, Prof Olawale Oladipo and chased him out of the building.

Making his way out of the office, Oladipo said, “Let me go. I will not come back. I will not come back.”

Oladipo was later whisked away through the gate of the neighbouring Sky Memorial Complex to avoid attack from the aggrieved pro-Makarfi group who were in front of the secretariat.

Following the successful chasing away of the party officer, the irate protesters locked up the main entrance to the Secretariat and handed over the keys to the Chairman of the party’s Board of Trustees, BoT, Senator Walid Jibrin, who arrived the scene afterwards.
