PDP Councillor arrested for buying PVCs in Katsina


The councillor representing Dunkun-Agala ward of Baure Local government area of Katsina State, Ahmadu Narayya, was on Thursday arrested for allegedly purchasing Permanent Voters’ Cards, PVCs.

Upon the arrest of Narayya, who is serving under the PDP platform, about twenty one PVCs were recovered from him.

It was gathered that most of the PVCs recovered were owned by women in the area, who were paid between fifteen to twenty thousand naira for each card.

Some APC youths in the area, who saw the councillor trying to duplicate the cards in a business centre raised alarm.

According to an eyewitness, the councillor was apprehended by the angry APC youths who took him to the State Police Command for further interrogation.

Some opposition parties in the area, however, accused the police of being biased after releasing the PDP councillor few hours after he was handed over to the police.

The chairman of Katsina state chapter of Labour Party, Shafiu Salmanu, told journalists that some members of the opposition political parties met with the police over the incident.

According to Salmanu, members of the opposition parties were disappointed over the sudden release of the councillor.

Salmanu, who was in company of other political party members called on the Police to look into the matter and ensure that justice took its full course.

Spokesperson of the Katsina State Police Command, Aminu Sadiq said the matter was undergoing investigation and that the police were yet to know the true identity of the persons involved.
