A former deputy chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in Edo State, Mr. Clement Edo-Osagie, has cautioned Bini people against falling for the antics of political stooges who are in the habit of using their positions to attract political patronage for themselves and their immediate families at the detriment of the people.
Osagie, who described those he was referring to as insignificant stooges, was reacting to a statement credited to the Esogban of Benin Kingdom, Chief David Edebiri, that the Bini will not vote for President Goodluck Jonathan.
The PDP chieftain, who spoke in Benin at the weekend, called on well-meaning Bini not to allow few persons, who are out to deny the people of Edo South senatorial district what is rightfully theirs in the scheme of things.
He said: “It is no longer news that some of these persons have made themselves spokespersons of the Bini. The political scene in Edo South has become a ‘farm’ to these persons who go about parading themselves as high ranking Benin chiefs, extorting those in Dennis Osadebay Avenue.”
He urged them to resist the attempt being made by some individuals under the guise of assuming the role of political “godfathers” of the Bini.
