Ali Modu Sheriff, National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says threats and counter-threats by ethnic groups in the country will add more challenges to Nigeria’s problems.
Sheriff appealed to Nigerians to use the Eid-el - Fitr celebration to pray for peace, unity and tolerance among Nigerians.
This is contained in a statement issued by his National Publicity Secretary, Bernard Mikko, on Sunday.
PDP noted it was worried by the growing tension in the country due to agitations and youth restiveness occasioned by claims and counter-claims of domination and marginalization by the ethnic nationalities in the country.
“Therefore, as we mark this year’s Sallah celebration, we sue for peace and tolerance as we urge every Nigerian to be committed to the task of nation building.
“Nigerians irrespective of their ethnic and religious affiliations should focus on our similarities rather than differences.
“We are better off a united country; and so we shall we remain,’’ the statement noted.
Sheriff urged Nigerians to pray for leaders and believe that God will guide them to direct the affairs of the country for the benefit of all.
He congratulated Muslims for a successful completion of Ramadan.
