PDP: BoT election to hold before NEC meeting

Prof. Jerry Gana

Indications have clearly emerged that the Prof. Jerry Gana Committee on the restructuring of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party will submit its report to President Goodluck Jonathan on February 25, 2013.

It is believed that with the submission of the report, a date for the election of the Board chairman will be fixed. Recall that the election has been postponed twice.

The calculation of the pro-Jonathan’s camp is that, should the president’s candidate emerge as the BoT chairman, the meeting for the National Executive Committee (NEC) can be conveniently fixed, as whatever grievance the opposing camp may have, would be neutralised.

Many of the Governors elected on the platform of the party are said to be keen on seeing that the National Chairman, Bamanga Tukur is voted out.

Some of them, especially those from the northern region are interested in contesting the presidential election in 2015 and are aware that their ambition may be ruined if Tukur remain in office.

Aside that, they have also accused Tukur of high-handedness. One of his sins according to the states helms men, is the dissolution of the party exco in his home state, Adamawa.

Tukur is reportedly preparing the grounds for his son to contest the state’s governorship election, an ambition also nursed by the son of incumbent Governor, Murtala Nyako.
