The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Board of Trustees, BoT, on Tuesday rejected erstwhile governor of Borno state, Ali Modu Sheriff as the party’s National Chairman.
Former Minister of Transport, Chief Ebenezer Babatope who spoke shortly after a meeting of the BoT in Abuja, said the BoT unanimously agreed that Sheriff is not qualified to lead the party.
Babatope said, “I just left the meeting of the Board of Trustees. The PDP BoT did not agree that Ali Modu Sheriff should be the Acting National Chairman of the PDP. The matter has been referred to the National Executive Council of the party. So, it is not true that Ali Modu Sheriff has been approved for the position”.
“As we speak, Ali Modu Sheriff is still waiting for the ratification of the NEC of the party. But the Board of Trustees unanimously rejected him as the party’s choice.”
The former Minister called on Nigerians to disregard the report that Sheriff has been endorsed by the leadership of the party.
