The ongoing crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Ogun State chapter is getting messier as chieftains of the party led by the Chairman-elect at the congress organised by the party’s National Working Committee, NWC, Mr. Bayo Adedayo, yesterday lambasted former president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo and General Tunji Olurin (rtd) , for allegedly betraying members of the party. According to Mr. Buruji Kasamu, one of the major financiers of the party, blamed the former president for allegedly failing to intervene in the crisis.
Kasamu said: “Chief Olusegun Obasanjo and General Tunji Olurin (rtd) are betrayers, they are not worthy to be called leaders of PDP in Ogun State. I recall that during the tiff between Obasanjo and the former governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, I was the only one who stood behind Obasanjo. But why is he allowing his name to be dragged in the mud by Oyinlola and Bode Mustapha?” Also speaking in Lagos, yesterday, Adedayo expressed worry over what he described as “criminal behaviour against democratic institutions,” noting that the democratically- elected executive officers through a congress were not allow to act as dictated by the law.”
The chairman, who is recognised by the courts, wondered why congresses held across the nation five months ago, would be nullified, adding that the imposition of an “illegal caretaker committee in the state” is unacceptable. Flaying the actions of some national officers of PDP for failing to comply with court orders, he said, “the rule of law is on our side, if anyone is properly elected, he should be allowed to operate in that capacity.” While warning against anti-democratic acts that could lead to anarchy within the party in the state, the party he said, “some big elephants are trying to impose their surrogates to be at vantage position for 2015.” He said disobedience to court judgments was an invitation to anarchy that would do nobody any good, noting that “democracy is about the rule of law.” He said: “We are frustrated, but if this issue goes to worse, the result is better imagined. What the other faction is doing negates the constitution of the party.”
