Anambra State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has attributed the general apathy and low turnout of voters for the State Assembly election in the state to the defeat suffered by President Goodluck Jonathan in the March 28 presidential election.
Saturday election in the state was virtually marred by general apathy and pockets of violence across the state.
Though accreditation started as early as 8 am, voter turnout was generally low in most parts of the state.
According to the Coordinator of President Goodluck Jonathan Campaign Organisation in Anambra State, Mr. Okey Ezenwa, the failure of the President to emerge winner of the just-concluded presidential election, resulted in the poor participation of voters in the State Assembly election.
While confirming cases of violence and snatching of ballot boxes in Agulu and Ogbunike areas of the state, he asserted that “the current government cannot exonerate itself from this.”
It was at this point that he stated that “The loss of Jonathan in the last election had contributed to the apathy of voters seen in the state, and these pockets of violence are not helping maters either.”
