Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Movement, on Wednesday, says the party is no longer a movement following its registration by the Independent National Electoral Commission as a political party.
He was reacting to comments from some founding members of the PDM, including Chairman, Board of Trustees of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), who are insisting that the PDM was formed as a pressure group and will remain so.
But Ibrahim in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria said, ”PDM ceases to be a movement as claimed by some politicians.
“It has transformed into a political party and the decision to register PDM as a political party was taken by members of the movement.
Speaking further, he said “Look at our trajectory from 1994 to date. Our plan has been implemented step by step until the movement is transformed into a political party.
“It is time for the members of the movement to watch their languages as we all agreed to break from the past and transform into a political party.”
He,however, said that the party still stands with its objective of being a bridge linking the North and South.
Ibrahim said although there were deviations from PDM’s principle, the party would regain the original values of the movement.
He said the PDM would unify the people and bridge the gap between the rich and the poor.
