Patriotic lawyers laud Falana’s courage in dragging Okonjo-Iweala before ICC

The League of Patriotic Lawyers has commended the courage of a human rights activist, Mr. Femi Falana, SAN, for dragging the immediate past Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala and others suspected to have been involved in the diversion of funds meant for arms procurement before the International Court of Justice, ICC.

Describing the move as one in the right direction, President of the association, Mallam Abubakar Yesufu, while interacting with journalists, urged Falana not to be discouraged by the criticisms trailing his action in some quarters, adding that no better honour could be done to the memory of late Gani Fawehinmi than to fight against impunity and financial recklessness.

According to him, “The League has thrown its weight behind Femi Falana in his attempt to assist in sanitizing the cesspool of corruption that has bedeviled our political space for nearly two decades.

“The league commended Falana’s courage to drag the former Madam Okonjo-Iweala before the international court of justice. Those who turned our soldiers to lame duck and soft targets to be preyed upon by the Boko Haram by deliberately refusing to fund or misappropriate funds already appropriated definitely are subjects of international court of justice and proper sanction awaits them when their indictment is eventually unsealed now or in future.”
