Former Arsenal captain, Patrick Vieira, has spoken for the first time since he was named as a possible replacement for manager, Arsene Wenger.
Wenger has announced he is stepping down at the end of this season and the Frenchman has reportedly recommended his compatriot to the club’s board.
Vieira, in an interview with radio station WNYE, says he is “flattered” at being linked with taking over his former club, but added heis “happy” as New York City coach.
“I spent nine years at Arsenal which makes the club really special for me.
“But that is not enough to coach the team,” he said.
Vieira, like Wenger, arrived at Arsenal in 1996 when he signed from AC Milan and made 371 appearances for the club, scoring 32 goals.
