Patrick Doyle reveals why celebrities’ marriages, careers fail

Nollywood actor and ace broadcaster, Patrick Doyle, has expressed his opinion on why some celebrities’ marriages and careers fail.

The actor, who has been prominent in the entertainment industry since the 80’s, said the truth behind celebrities’ marriages crashing is that most of them put themselves in a position where they cannot re-trace their steps because they are so quick to advertise their mood.

Speaking with The Punch, he said, “My wife and I are not the type you often see in the public. We are not the typical celebrities. Whenever we step out, it is work for us the same way an accountant would go to work in the morning and head home at the close of work. If I have to attend a movie premiere, it is work. I also do not post my thoughts on social media.

“Some of this new crop of artistes are so stupid that they go as far as posting how their spouse annoyed them on their social media platforms. My wife and I are not into that and that is why we are not really being scrutinised by the public.

“You see people posting things like, ‘Today, he annoyed me but I would manage him,’ on their Facebook and Twitter accounts. I feel sorry for the young people who feel they have a duty to keep their fans abreast of their life situation. They say things like, ‘my fans’. I then ask, ‘who is your fan?’ The fact that someone admires your work does not make him your fan; he is just an admirer of your work. Let me give an instance of what a fan does. Start a fire and when it is about to quench, use a fan to blow it, what happens?

“These artistes consume themselves in the fire of fans. I don’t live my life waiting for someone to be my fan. I want you to be my friend and admire my work. I don’t need anybody to define me or boost my ego because I can rightly approximate my self-worth. They are so silly, they say things like, ‘I have 6,000 followers’. They forget that those 6,000 followers are also following a million other artistes.

“They are not your followers but followers of Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, etc. When you say someone is your follower, he follows you alone, so don’t be fooled,” the award-winning actor added.
