Chief Magistrate F. Richard of an Oyo State Magistrate Court sitting in Ibadan has remanded an Ibadan-based pastor, Adejare Adebayo at Agodi Prison till February 14 over the death of his wife, Risikayat Adegbule .
The 61-year-old cleric according to the prosecutor, Mr. Sunday Ogunremi who read the charge sheet before the magistrate on Monday, allegedly cut off his wife’s breast with knife at Onikankan Village, Ibadan, on December 24 2016.
The prosecutor alleged that after cutting off the left breast of the 43-year-old woman, she reportedly suffered excruciating pain from the wound before she finally died after a few days.
“That you Pastor Adejare Adebayo on December 24, 2016 at 12:00 a.m. at Onikankan Village, Ibadan, did unlawfully cause the death of Rukayat Adegbule, 43, by cutting her breast, thereby committed an offence contrary to section 316 and punishable under Vol.11 sec. 319 of the Criminal Code cap ix, Vol. 11 of the Laws of Oyo State.”
The prosecutor stressed that the Pastor claimed that he cut off the affected breast because his wife suffered cancer in her left breast.
The 61 year old Pastor, however, pleaded not guilty to the one-count charge.
The Chief Magistrate while adjourning the case till February 14 then ordered that the Pastor be remanded at the Agodi Prison.
