A 40-year-old Pastor, Abraham Akpan, was on Friday charged before a Lagos Magistrates’ Court in Ikeja for allegedly defiling a 16-year-old girl while conducting deliverance prayer on her.

Akpan who resides at No. 39, Hassan Ogunmola Street in Ijaiye area of Lagos, is standing trial on a three-count charge bordering on rape.

While testifying in court, the prosecutor, Sgt. Jimah Iseghede, said the defendant committed the offence between August 27 and August 29 in his apartment.

Iseghede said the 16-year-old girl’s parent took her to the church for deliverance where the 40-year-old allegedly had his way on her sexually.

“At the deliverance session, when nobody was there, the pastor raped the girl severally,” he said.

According to Iseghede, the offence contravened Sections 135, 137 and 141 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

Akpan however pleaded not guilty to the charges preffered against him.

In his ruling, the Chief Magistrate, Mr Tajudeen Elias, adjourned the case till September 21 for ruling on the bail application filed by the defendant.
