Pastor, others allegedly killed in Kaduna community mayhem

A pastor and others have allegedly been killed in a mayhem between Christian and Muslim youths in Kasuwsn Magani, Kajuri local government area of Kaduna State.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Aliyu Murktar confirmed the incident but couldn’t give the number of those killed.

Report from the area said trouble over allegations that Muslim youths were marrying Christian girls and forcefully converting them to Islam.

The PPRO said police personnel had been drafted to the area to stabilize the situation and avoid any further breakdown of law and order.

Also, the Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai, in a statement through his spokesman, Samuel Aruwan had directed the prosecution of all persons responsible for the Monday mayhem.

The government said that security agencies must investigate the unfortunate incident, arrest and make available for prosecution the perpetrators.

Aruwan explained that” the government condemns the violence, and regrets the wanton shattering of lives.”

He further disclosed that the government has expressed its sympathy to the victims and their families.

According to Aruwan, the government has directed the State Emergency Management Agency to take inventory of damages and provide relief materials with immediate effect.

The statement added that security forces had been deployed to contain the situation, protect lives and properties and to prevent any further breakdown of law and order.

The statement added that “the government urges all citizens and communities to reject violence and division, and uphold their neighbours in peace and harmony.”
