Pastor arraigned in court over N1.4m fraud

A Pastor identified as Emmanuel Okwedimbu, who allegedly obtained the sum of 1.4m under false pretence from one Amobi Charles was on Thursday arraigned before an Ejigbo Magistrates’ Court sitting in Lagos.

Okwedimbu was charged on a six count of fraud, theft, felony, threat to life, breach of the peace and infringement.

Testiying in court, the Prosecuting officer, Sgt. Babaji Ishaku, said the accused conspired with others now at large to commit felony.

Ishiaku told the court that, “The accused on August 10, at Alhaji Monsuru Street, Ejigbo, a suburb of Lagos, did obtain N1.4m from Amobi Charles under the pretext of spiritual cleansing.

“The accused also threatened to kill the complainant if he let out the deal.”

According to the prosecutor, the offences contravened Sections 2, Cap 4552, 166(1) (d), 166 (2) and 306 of Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2011.

Okwedimbu however pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against him.

In her ruling, the Magistrate, Mrs J.O Adeyemi, granted the accused bail with two sureties, who must be gainfully employed with verifiable addresses.

The Magistrate consequently adjourned the case till Nov. 16, for mention.
