Members of the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria in the National Assembly (PASAN) have vowed to continue their protest over non payment of allowances until the Clerk to the National Assembly, CNA, Mr. Sani Omolori, was removed from office.
PASAN made good their threat to picket the National Assembly on Monday after strenuous effort to have their allowances paid failed.
They also said they would never cooperate with the NASS management if, after three days protest, Mr. Omolori remains in office under any circumstance.
Speaking with DAILY POST while the protest was on-going in Abuja, Hon. Ike Obiora, a parliamentary staff, lamented that the Clerk to the National Assembly was the problem, stating that avenues for dialogue explored by the staff did not yield results.
“Since the administration of the CNA, Mr Sani Omolori, PASAN’s 28% increase of CONLESS which was captured in 2018 budget, has never been paid.”
“The money has been released alongside other releases, and I ask where is our allowances?”
“We will not rest over our CONLESS until we receive alert. His juju has failed. Omolori must go,” he added.
Before now, PASAN issued a statement alerting the NASS management of protest scheduled for three days beginning from Tuesday (today).
The statement followed a resolution reached by members of the association.
The Clerk to the National Assembly, Mohammed Sani Omolori, Monday said the National Assembly management was already addressing some of the grievances raised by PASAN.
He further explained that he has set up a committee, which was made up of management and PASAN to study, review and advise on the way forward.
Part of the statement reads, “On the 28% salary increase, I have empaneled a committee made up of management and PASAN to study, review and advise on the way forward.”
“The payment was captured in 2018 budget, but the level of implementation in terms of release of funds has made it impossible to pay this additional 28%.
“This situation has been well discussed, and I am aware that PASAN officials have investigated and verified this fact from the Federal Ministry of Finance,” he said.
Omolori stated that some members of staff have unresolved issues, hence their promotion letters were withheld.
On the non-release of some promotion letters, upgrading, conversion and other establishment matters, he said, “out of the 589 letters of promotion, conversion and upgrading sent by NASC, 562 have been released to the respective beneficiaries.”
