The court process initiated to vacate the ex-parte order freezing the Paris-Club bank account of Delta state was stalled on Thursday as Justice Yusuf Halilu of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court did not sit.
The process was consequently adjourned to Tuesday August 13, 2017.
A few days ago, Delta state Paris-Club bank account number was frozen sequel to an affidavit in support of ex-parte originating summons sworn to by Dr. Maurice Ibe, the Chairman and Managing Director of Mauritz Walton Nigeria Ltd, and filed before the court by his Counsel, Charles Ude and Co.
The state government reportedly owes Mauritz Walton Nigeria Ltd, the sum of $27,274,135 and N3bn for facilitating the refund of excess deductions made from its monthly allocations for servicing the Paris Club foreign loan.
However, in reaction to the order freezing the Paris-Club bank account, Counsel to Delta state government, Alex Izonyi (SAN), approached the court to vacate its ex-parte order.
He also urged the court to accelerate the process in the interest of the public.
Meanwhile, DAILY POST gathered that Abia state has also approached the court to vacate a similar order freezing its own Paris club account.
The court has fixed August 15th to hear the Abia state case.
On its part, Cross River state has not reacted to the court order freezing its own Paris-Club bank account number 101989719 domiciled at United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc.
It could be recalled that an FCT High Court froze the accounts of the three states amid allegations that the governors of the three states preferred payment to family members, friends, and cronies in the guise of settling the fees for consultancy services at the expense of the real consultant progenitor of the Paris-London Club Refund.
