Panic in Otukpo over rumoured herdsmen attack

There was confusion in Otukpo, the headquarters of Idoma community over rumoured attack on the community by suspected herdsmen.

Reports had it that heavily armed herdsmen had invaded Eiupi in Otukpo and were allegedly hacking people to death.

This development left many people rattled, unsettled, disturbed and stranded as many scampered for safety.

Reacting when contacted, however, the Executive Chairman of Otukpo Local Government, Hon. George Alli, said nothing of such happened.

According to him, “The alleged Fulani herdsmen attacks in parts of Otukpo town or village, by unknown persons this evening is completely false, unfounded and untrue.

“There was no single Fulani herdsmen attack, anywhere in Otukpo. We beg those peddling such rumours to desist from such risky action, as is capable of causing fear, chaos and pain.”

Hon. Alli called on all law-abiding residents of Otukpo and its environs to go about their normal businesses without fear.
