It appears that the incessant bomb attacks currently threatening the Northern part of Nigeria is gradually creeping into the southwest corridors.

The Police in Ado Ekiti on Wednesday arrested a young man who reportedly attempted to bomb the Ekiti state Government House, the official residence of the state Governor, Dr Kayode John Fayemi.

His attempt was foiled barely 24 hours to the final verdict of the Supreme Court of Nigeria which is expected to deliver judgement on the case filed by the former Governor of the state, Engr. Segun Oni, challenging his removal from office and the subsequent declaration of Governor Kayode Fayemi as the dully elected Governor in the 2007 and 2009 gubernatorial elections in the state.

DailyPost gathered that the alleged bomber was conveyed to the venue by a man on motorbike who was said to have escaped arrest as soon as the suspected criminal alighted in-front of the main gate of the Government’s House.

The suspect was caught making efforts to contact some people through his mobile telephone , a development which attracted the attention of a servant identified as Johnson who confronted him about six poles to the Governor’s Lodge

It was learnt that Johnson drew the attention of the security personnel at the main gate of the Government House, who responded immediately and got the suspected evil man apprehended while ceasing some of his personal belongings.

DailyPost gathered that items such as explosive devise and other dangerous weapons like charms, knives and other lethal tools were recovered from him.

The Police Public Relations Officer of Ekiti State Police Command, Mr Victor Olu, confirmed the arrest. He however disclosed that no explosive material or bomb was found on him.

His words: “Somebody was just trying to draw attention to himself. No bomb or explosive material was found on him.

“He only behaved curiously and that caused the suspicion that made people to raise the alarm because he exhibited a conduct likely to cause the breach of public peace”

According to the police spokesperson, the suspect is currently cooling his heels at the State Police headquarters while his mission is being investigated.

The state Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, Mr Funminiyi Afuye, while reacting to the incident said the police has taken over the matter, adding that the suspect is currently being interrogated.
