There was panic among security agencies in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State capital following the killing of a solder by his colleague. The identities of both the killed soldier and the culprit are yet to be known.
DailyPost gathered that the incident happened about 11:00 pm on Monday night at Olopa Junction, very close to Bayelsa state Government House.
Although details of the incident are still sketchy, sources said the culprits may have been drunk.
The source who narrated the incident to DailyPost said: “The soldier shot his colleague and the colleague died instantly. The incident happened on Monday night around 11:00 pm at Olopa junction.
”Superior officers said he was drunk at the time. But the soldier has been remanded in the police cell. However, the identities of the deceased and his killer are not known yet.
He further revealed that ”both soldiers were attached to the police station in Olopa junction, close to Bayelsa State Government House.”
When contacted, the Spokesperson of Bayelsa State Police Command, Mr. Alex Akhigbe confirmed the killing.
He said, “I am aware that there was an incident of that nature yesterday (Monday) night. It is purely a military affair and I will advise that you direct your enquiries to the military authorities if you want to get more details.”
DailyPost recalls that the spate of extra-judicial killings have become worrisome to the National Human Rights Commission in recent time.
Already, the Commission has indicated its intention to investigate the allegation of extra-judicial killings by Amnesty International contained in its report.
