Tragedy struck at Ofagbe community in Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta State on Tuesday following the death of a 30-year-old palm wine tapper, identified as Inibu, who was killed by suspected Fulani herdsmen.
It was learnt that Inibu, was killed while trying to collect palm wine in a bush along the community’s road.
The Olotu-Logbo of Ofagbe Kingdom, Othuke Omejedo while speaking with journalist on the incident said, “One woman ran to me that as she was going to the market, she met the lifeless body of a boy lying on the ground on the road leading to Ashaka. She said another one was injured.”
The traditional ruler of the community added that the corpse of the palm wine tapper has been deposited in a mortuary at Ozoro, while the other injured person, Mr. Thompson Ogege was rushed to a nearby hospital.
According to Omejedo, the injured victim revealed that while they were tapping their palm wine, some Fulani herdsmen accosted them, and opened fire on them during a scuffle.
“We have never had any problem with the herdsmen because they have not been living in this community,” Omejedo said.
