Arsenal boss, Arsene Wenger says Mesut Ozil’s future at the club does not solely depend on whether he stays on as manager or not.
The midfielder was quoted earlier this week as saying that his decision over whether to sign a new contract depends on the situation surrounding Wenger as manager.
But the 67-year-old French tactician says Ozil has been misinterpreted by the media, insisting the former Real Madrid star, does want to know whether he will remain in charge at the Emirate Stadium.
He noted that the player is also considering many other factors.
Wenger told a news conference ahead of the weekend’s Premier League game against Swansea, “He wants to know what is happening, but it is not the main part of his decision.
“I think Mesut was misinterpreted somewhat. There are many other ingredients that play a role.
“Hopefully we will find a conclusion shortly. We always talk to each other, as well as with his agent.
“He still has 18 months left on his contract, so we are very relaxed.”
Ozil has been ill and out of actions since December 26, but is likely to return at Swansea City with Petr Cech, Laurent Koscielny and Alexis Sanchez all fit.
Wenger added, “We have the same available players as last week, plus Koscielny, Cech, Ozil and Sanchez.
“[Hector] Bellerin is still out, [Francis] Coquelin as well. They could be back next week, not far away.
“[Theo] Walcott was out for three-and-a-half weeks and he will not be available. He was not comfortable when he started to train, but I am not concerned. I think two weeks.”
