OYSIEC insists on Feb 11 for council polls

The Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC), has insisted that there is no going back in the local government election slated for Saturday February 11.

OYSIEC said this in a reaction to a media report that it has shifted the election.

It stated that no amount of discouragement would stop it from going ahead with the election based on the provisions of the constitution.

Speaking on the purported court injunction, the electoral body said that it had not been served with any court order stopping the election.

The Commission’s Media Officer, Mr. Cosmas Oni in a statement made available to journalists on Monday in Ibadan maintained that “OYSIEC cannot act or react to the reported interlocutory injunction stopping the conduct of elections in the 33 local governments and the newly created 35 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in the state.” Oni stressed that the commission did not have the court process and that there was no substituted service as well, adding that the commission would not act on media reports.

He reiterated that the commission would continue with its preparation and activities towards conducting a free and fair election, noting that the commission upon receiving the court order would consult its legal advisers.
