The Oyo State Police Command on Monday declared wanted three members of “Ogunmola” masquerade in Ibadan over mayhem and destruction during the “Egunegun”’ festival. Mr Muhammed Katsina, the Police Commissioner, made the declaration while presenting to newsmen, Sikiru Ojewale, custodian of the Ogunmola masquerade of Adenimodo compound in Ibadan.
Kastina, who was represented by the Police Public Relations Officer of the command, DSP Adekunle Ajisebutu, said the police was working hard to arrest all the people connected to the incident.
He, therefore, directed the fleeing members of the masquerade to report at the nearest police station immediately in their own interest.
He said Ojewale was arrested for inciting his followers and for participating in the mayhem as well as destruction of property.
According to the commissioner, the ugly development resulted in total breakdown of law and order in Ayeye area of Mapo.
He said members of the masquerade’s families and all the suspects had refused to sign the peace pact to be of good conduct earlier issued by the police.
“The meeting was to ensure that there was peace during the Egunegun Festival in the state, but they refused to honour our call for peace,” he said.
Katsina said no individual or group of persons would be allowed to constitute a threat to public peace in the state. (NAN)
