The Oyo State Police Command has ordered a 24 hour surveillance of the state to avoid breakdown of law and order during and after the 2015 general elections rescheduled to hold on March 28 and April 11.
The order of the police command was disclosed by the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, DSP Adekunle Ajisebutu while speaking with journalists during his familiarization visit to the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, in Ibadan yesterday.
According Ajisebutu, the command has instituted joint patrol of security operatives in the state to ensure security of lives and property.
On the forthcoming general elections, the police spokesman said there would be adequate security of lives, property and journalists in the state, calling for cooperation between security operatives and journalists, as, according to him, this would bring about adequate provision of security for the people of the state.
The Oyo PPRO also condemned extortion by some policemen at road blocks across the state, adding that they were expected to conduct thorough and aggressive temporary stop and search so as to ensure safety of lives and property.
Ajisebutu also assured that the state security outfit, “Operation Burst” will continue to provide security despite the withdrawal of military personnel from it.
