Oyo: Police arrest 6 NURTW members for allegedly causing trouble in motor parks

The Oyo State Police Command said it has arrested no fewer than six members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Oyo State chapter for allegedly causing trouble in some motor parks.

The six persons according to the police were arrested in Ibadan, the state capital between Wednesday and Thursday.

Public Relations Officer of the Command, Mr. Olugbenga Fadeyi, hinted that the suspects were nabbed by the divisional police stations in conjunction with SARS at Orita Challenge and at Agodi area of the ancient city.

Fadeyi, while speaking with journalists on Thursday, however, insisted that the suspects would be charged to court today (Friday).

He said, “Three NURTW miscreants were arrested at our Challenge division on Wednesday and the other three were nabbed on Thursday at Agodi area.

“The DPO in Agodi with the assistance from the SARS made the latest arrests possible. They (NURTW) members have been warned from fomenting troubles in the state.”

Asked if there were arms and ammunition recovered from them, the PPRO said the reports sent to the police command did not reflect any seized items.

DAILY POST gathered that there had been tension in Ibadan and other major towns in the state shortly after the March 9th victory of Governor Seyi Makinde of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as factional members of the union were threatening to effect change of NURTW leadership on the inauguration day of the new Governor, which was held on Wednesday.

However, Makinde had warned members of the union against violence. He had promised not to spare the members of the union caught causing trouble in the state.
