Former Vice Chairman, Senate Committee on National Planning, Economic Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Senator Olufemi Lanlehin, has declared that the people of Oyo State were tired of negative and un-progressive change vested on them by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Lanlehin stated this on Saturday shortly after supervising the Ibadan North West Local Government congress of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) held at Ebenezer Primary School, Salvation Army Road, Ibadan.
The ex-lawmaker who represented Oyo South Senatorial District in the National Assembly between 2011 and 2015 while speaking with journalists noted that contrary to the belief of APC members that PDP congresses would not see the light of the day, both the ward congresses held last week and the Local Government congresses held on Saturday were conducted in an atmosphere of peace and tranquility.
He noted that reports of the ward congresses in all the 350 wards and 33 local government areas in the state indicated that the exercise went well for the party.
Lanlehin, who is also a member of the Caretaker Committee of the party representing Ibadan North West Local Government Area however insisted that the PDP having learned its lesson, was determined to come back fully in 2019.
He said “Everything went very well, we are all determined. We agreed to work together, ground work have been done, arrangement have been done, we concluded that we have to come together and form a new PDP.
“That is what we have done, the congress of Ibadan North West Local Government. As you can see, the choice of the officers were conducted in a peaceful and acceptable atmosphere, this is to show that the party is determined to re-engineer and re-configure.
“I can assure you that with the grace of Almighty God and the people of Oyo State who are tired of the negative and un-progressive change of this government, we will return to power.
“We have never had it like this. PDP will change the changer, we are determined to give our best to Nigeria”.
While responding to outcry of some members of the party who said they were schemed out during the last Saturday’s ward congresses, Lanlehin said that the party has put a mechanism in place to resolve differences.
He said “There is nothing you can do that would satisfy everybody, I am confident and I do know that we will try to resolve it. The people who are aggrieved have every right to be but we are working to ensure we are work together.
“This only shows that we are determined to forge ahead; the people are. The opponents have expressed the view or the wish that the whole thing will result into probably blood-letting or violence but it is evident; the exercise was successful.
“Look, the economy is in shamble. I know of Oyo State, the governor does not care, clueless”.
Those elected to pilot the affairs of the party in Ibadan North West Local Government Area were; Alhaji Lukman Adesina (Chairman), Alhaji Nasiru Dauda (Deputy Chairman), Asimiyu Gbolagade (Secretary General), Kazeem Fantola (Publicity Secretary), Muniru Lawal (Assistant Publicity Secretary) and Oladepo Aluko (Organising Secretary).
Others were; Iyabo Ladapo (Women Leader), Tunde Agboola (Treasurer) and Comrade Falodun (Youth Leader).
