Oyo PDP withdraws from Saturday’s LG election

The Oyo State chapter of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on Thursday announced its withdrawal from participating in tomorrow’s Local Government election in the state.

PDP Chairman, Alhaji Kunmi Mustapha who announce this at the end of the party’s State Working Committee meeting held in Ibadan, directed its members to distance themselves from the Saturday’s election.

He predicted the outcome to be an effort in futility.

Mustapha in a release made available to DAILY POST through the Publicity Secretary of the party, Engineer Akeem Olatunji, declared that, “The purported local government elections from all indications has failed integrity test and a complete mockery of democracy due to the undemocratic remarks of OYSIEC Chairman on a radio programme that he is not bound to obey Court Order as regards the conduct of the Saturday LG elections”.

He said that, “it is against the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria for a State electoral body to delineate wards which is the statutory responsibility of Boundary Adjustment Commission in conjunction with Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) regarding electoral procedure.

“It will therefore amounted to legalizing an illegality if PDP should participate in the sham election.

“PDP as a party will never circumvent the constitution because it will lay a bad precedence”.

Mustapha later urged the electorates, “To boycott the local government poll on Saturday based on the fact that if an ordinary Ward Congress of APC could result to violence and infliction of injuries on their own party members and passersby, it will be suicidal and wasteful venture to participate in an elections of which its outcome is an effort in futility.

“To the good people of Oyo State and even majority of APC leaders apart from Governor Ajimobi faction of the party knows quite well that the foundation of the local government elections is being erected on sand and can’t stand the test of time.”
