The Governor-elect in Oyo State, Engineer Seyi Makinde, has warned members of the state chapter of National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), against violence ahead of tomorrow’s inauguration of new government.
Makinde issued this warning via a statement made available to journalists on his behalf by Mr. Dotun Oyelade, his Media Aide.
The Governor-elect was reacting to alleged possible attacks on motor parks, garages and other strategic locations by some members of the state NURTW aimed to be carried out immediately after his inauguration.
DAILY POST recalls that residents of the state had been in panic over an alleged possible attacks on some strategic locations in Ibadan and other major towns in the state by a faction within the camp of the state chapter of the transport workers union.
But, Makinde while reacting, warned members of the union or or any other group or association in the state against any plan that may disrupt the peace of the state before, during or after the swearing-in ceremony.
Makinde in a statement made available to DAILY POST on Tuesday insisted that he does not have a favoured group and no one is above the law.
He warned that he had discussed the issue with the Commissioner of Police to clampdown heavily on any troublemaker.
Makinde while speaking further, assured all citizens including market women to go about their lawful duties as the new administration is determined to protect everybody without fear or favour.
He said “We will make life uncomfortable for those who profit from violence.
“And ensure that all the citizens operate their normal lives without intimidation or fear.”
