Oyo guber: Expect alliance that would dislodge APC – Makinde tells Oyo residents

The gubernatorial candidate of the People Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo state, Engineer Seyi Makinde on Thursday assured people of the state that opposition parties in the state are working to produce what he called a grand alliance to dislodge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and its candidate, Mr. Adebayo Adelabu in the March 9th governorship election in the state.

Makinde, while featuring in a interactive session with the President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Engineer Adekunle Mokuolu in Ibadan, insisted that opposition parties in the state are currently meeting and have agreed to make their ambitions secondary.

He assured that the alliance will bring good tidings for the people of the state.

The PDP candidate, while confirming that opposition parties were ready to dislodge the APC, maintained that all the opposition parties have to come together for them to achieve the aim of unsitting the ruling party.

He said, “We are working really hard to ensure that a workable coalition is able to come forward to challenge the APC in Oyo.

“This is in the interest of the masses of Oyo State, we are all thinking about making our individual ambition secondary, the welfare and good governance for Oyo people is to be the issue of primary concern.

“If we have to dislodge APC in Oyo State, all other political parties will have to get into agreement where it’s a win win situation which may equal a draw for all of us.

“And I believe for the forthcoming election, we’re going to see a grand alliance in Oyo State.”

But, the spokesman of the APC candidate, Dr. Bayo Busari, in his reaction, declared that the alliance will not see the light of the day.

Busari, in a statement made available to DAILY POST Friday morning, said, “We welcome their alliance but I make bold to say that it will not see the light of the day.

“Who will step down for who? If they can agree there wouldn’t have been the need for all of them to go separate ways before. Or are you saying that Engineer Makinde who see the position as one that he can buy will step down for Senator Lanlehin or Barr. Alli who he sees as someone he can buy off?

“Engineer Makinde, particularly has become obsessed to the extent that he doesn’t mind going bankrupt because of this election. We want to advice him that the governorship of Oyo State is not up for sale, it’s not for the highest spender.

“He ought to have taken a cue from his experience in 2015, when notwithstanding that he spent heavily on the election he still came a dismal fifth.

“I’ll tell all of them that what the antics of the housefly will be dismantled by the broom, Oyo State electorates are with us.”
