Former governor of Oyo State and gubernatorial candidate of the Action Democratic Party (ADP), in the March 2 election, Chief Christopher Adebayo Alao-Akala, on Thursday promised to pay workers in the state the N30, 000 minimum wage when elected governor of the state.
Alao-Akala made this declaration while speaking at the flag-off of the ADP campaigns in Ibadan, state capital.
At the event were Senatorial candidates of the party for Oyo Central, Hon. Temitope Olatoye, Oyo South Dr. Fola Akinosun and other candidates of the party in the 2019 general elections.
Alao-Akala, while addressing thousands of members and supporters the party said that he will clear the outstanding promotions and arrears in addition to the payment of the N30,000 minimum wage, which some governors had rejected.
He said that after his inauguration, he will abolish all educational levies and settle all salary arrears in the state.
Alao-Akala, while assuring residents of the state that he will bring smiles to their faces after his inauguration, added that he will restore the dignity of teaching profession in the state through retraining and capacity building workshops for the teachers.
He added that he will acquire the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso for Oyo state only.
LAUTECH our correspondent gathered is jointly owned by both Oyo and Osun states.
Alao-Akaka said, “By the grace of God, we shall pay the N30,000 minimum wage, abolish educational levies in Oyo state and acquire LAUTECH for Oyo State.
“We are restoring free and qualitative education once again. We shall abolish all educational levies, strengthen didactics and ensure that our candidates come first in NECO and other public examinations again. We will acquire LAUTECH for Oyo State alone. The LAUTECH teaching hospital complexes in Ogbomoso and Oyo will become operational and deliver top brand medical services to our people.
“We shall get all our tertiary institutions on state subvention as it is the practice with responsible governments all over the world. We shall reverse all arbitrary increases in fees and resuscitate the state scholarship board as we did on 2007 after 20 years to assist our indigent but gifted students.
“We are restoring the dignity of the teaching profession and institutionalise retraining and capacity building workshops as I did severally during my first term.
“We are aware that Oyo state civil servants are the true agents of economic multiplier. So for them, it is welcome back to fresh and unimaginable motivations, prompt salaries, promotions and other emoluments. The Alao-Akala administration shall pay the N30,000 minimum wage. We shall immediately visit all outstanding promotions and pay promotion arrears.
“Oyo pensioners shall not only smile but laugh again. I am digitalising the state pension administration once and for all and address gratuity and pension arrears.”
