Oyo guber 2019: Why I resigned as CBN Deputy Governor to join politics – Adelabu

The gubernatorial candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), in the March 9 election in Oyo State, Mr. Adebayo Adelabu on Wednesday declared that he sacrificed his career to encourage millions of youths in the country to particulate in politics.

Adelabu made this declaration while addressing hundreds of postgraduate students of the University of Ibadan, at the Abdulsalami Abubarkar Post Graduate Hall.

DAILY POST recalls that Adelabu, an alumnus of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, had last year resigned as Deputy Governor of Central Bank of Nigerian (CBN), to join the gubernatorial race in the state.

The APC candidate, who implored the students to vote for him, said that the need to vote for him was necessary because he belongs to the youth age group.

He said that he resigned his appointment as the Deputy Governor (Operations), in the CBN to encourage millions of youths in the country so as not to shun politics.

He said that he believed that the “Not Too Young to Run” law can only be realistic when vibrant youths like him are on the corridors of power.

Adelabu while soliciting support of the PG students ahead of the gubernatorial election, insisted that he did sacrificed his banking career so as to redeem the lost glory of the state.

He said, “I sacrificed my career to encourage you. You should participate in politics.

“I am not here to campaign. I am here to congratulate you. APC has succumbed to your plea by selecting one of you to lead.

“We must regain our lost glory. And I believe it is only a youth that can do it.

“Not only a youth, a youth with a solid educational background. A youth that graduated with a first class.

“A youth that can transform our society. A youth that has an unbeatable performance both in the private and public sector.

“We’ll provide adequate security, we will give you good transportation.

“I will become the most student-friendly governor you have ever seen. If you forfeit this chance as youths, you may never regain it again.”
