Ben Murray-Bruce, the Senator representing Bayelsa East has reacted to the emergence of Seyi Makinde, the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as winner of the Oyo State gubernatorial election.
Makinde polled 515,621 votes, to defeat Adebayo Adelabu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who polled 357,982 votes.
The results of all the 33 local government areas of the state were announced at the collation centre of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Ibadan, the state capital on Sunday.
Reacting to Makinde’s victory, Bruce took to his Twitter page describing the PDP victory as a “new dawn” in Oyo State, adding that ‘Godfatherism’ has been defeated in the state.
The Bayelsa lawmaker wrote: “It’s a new dawn in Oyo State. Godfathers should not be stronger than the people. The real ‘constituted authority’ are the people.
“May we all learn a lesson from what happened in Oyo State. May that spirit of liberty spread to every nook of Nigeria till the people call the shots.”
Oyo is the first South-West state PDP is winning, having lost Ekiti last year.
