Following the death of the former Governor of Oyo state and elder statesman, Alhaji Lam Adesina, who passed on at the age of 73 on Sunday morning and buried according to Islamic rites in the same evening at his Felele residence in Ibadan, Oyo state government has declared a 7 days mourning.
In a statement signed by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media, Dr. Festus Adedayo, seven days of mourning would be observed in the state. The statement reads “The state government has declared a seven-day mourning for the departed elder statesman and former teacher of Governor Abiola Ajimobi.
“During the period, all official state functions will be suspended and the national flag flown at half mast.”
Lam Adeshina had been ill for a while and was admitted for some time at the University College Hospital and later St. Nicholas Hospital, Lagos, where he died on Sunday morning.
Many dignitaries attended his funeral among whom are the National Chairman of ACN, Chief Bisi Akande, National Leader of CAN, Chief Bola Tinubu, Oyo State Governor, Abiola Ajimobi; Ogun State Governor Ibikunle Amosun; Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola; Alhaji Abdulazeez Arisekola Alao, captains of industries, lawmakers, commissioners and other personalities from within and outside the state.
Describing the late elder statesman, Ajimobi said, “ a dedicated patriot, foremost defender of democracy and human rights, and political war-horse who had always stood on the side of truth.”
