Oyo community protests against exorbitant charges by IBEDC

Residents of Saki in Oyo state have protested against what they described as exorbitant electricity charges by the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC).

The residents who frowned at the charges while speaking at a town Hall meeting organised by the Asabari Consultative Council under the Chairmanship of General A.K. Togun (rtd) held at Saki Parapo town hall, said they were left with no option than to kick against the exorbitant charges.

The meeting was attended by artisans, community leaders, Chairmen of Landlords’ association, youth groups, Saki Youth Forum, student leaders and many others.

The residents said that the meeting became necessary after numerous activities embarked upon by the council towards eradicating age-long cheating, exploitation and manipulations that the town had been facing in the hands of electricity service providers proved abortive.

DAILY POST gathered that, it was unanimously decided and agreed upon that the Asabari Consultative Council should proceed without delay the commencement of the plan to speak the language they said “the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) understands” in order to have more hours of supply.

The town hall meeting was used as an avenue by the Council to enlighten the residents that attended the meeting on the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission’s Electricity Customers’ Rights and Obligations.

Afterwards, the meeting dissolved into a massive protest against the IBEDC with many joining the protests with placards of various inscriptions.
