Oyo 2019: APC clears Buhari’s minister, Adebayo Shittu despite NYSC saga

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) screening committee on Friday cleared the Minister of Communications, Barrister Abdulraheem Adebayo Shittu for the gubernatorial primary in Oyo State.

The clearance given to Shittu to contest the primary election of the ruling party in the Pace Setter State is coming few days after a revelation was made that the lawyer-turned-politician skipped the one year National Youth Service carried out by the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).

Shittu in the new scandal was said to have dodged the scheme mainly because of his election as a member of the Old Oyo state House of Assembly during the second republic.

DAILY POST however gathered that the Saki-born graduate of University of Ife now (Obafemi Awolowo University (Ile-Ife) was screened and cleared on Friday despite the NYSC saga, by the screening committee at the National Headquarters of the party in Abuja.

Head of Special Tasks for Adebayo Shittu’s Campaign Organization, Mr. Malik Aderogba, who confirmed this to DAILY POST, added that Shittu was cleared because he met the requirements of the committee.

Malik, a cousin to the Minister in a telephone conversation with DAILY POST on Friday added that Shittu was ready to contest the election despite criticism from the opposition.

He said, “Yes, he was screened and cleared today, this afternoon. He has been cleared because he met up the required documents.

“On the issue of NYSC, you know he had served in the state House of Assembly, are they saying that NYSC is more of service than serving in the State House of Assembly? Serving the state is even more than the NYSC.”
