Oyedepo’s curse on Fulani herdsmen stirs reaction

A cross-section of Nigerians has reacted to a statement by Bishop David Oyedepo, founder of Living Faith Church, where he laid curses on suspected Fulani herdsmen responsible for the killing of a pastor in his church, Jeremiah Omolara.

DAILY POST had reported that Omolara, a resident pastor of the Living Faith Church in Romi New Extension, a suburb of Kaduna metropolis, was recently killed by yet-to-be-identified gunmen.

But speaking during Day 2 of the church’s Week of Spiritual Emphasis on Thursday, Oyedepo released curses on the killers and their generations.

“Just last Sunday night for those of us who may have heard the news, one of our pastors was hacked down by Fulani herdsmen from Abuja to Kaduna.

“I want you to know, that it’s the last they will do (Amen) because I am going to lead you now to release curse of God upon these assailants and all their backers. Except I am not sent, their end has come. This evil system will crash. And I am speaking as a Prophet, not as a pastor, like somebody walking on the street. This evil system that has no value for life, this wicked system – Fulani demons: In the name of Jesus, their end has come.

“Curse be these Fulani herdsmen, curse be their generations, curse be their sponsors in the name of Jesus. In the name of Jesus Christ, we have cursed,” he added

Oyedepo’s statement where he rained curses on killer herdsmen has since stirred diverse reactions from Nigerians on social media.

While some criticised the Bishop for cursing the killers rather than show mercy like God, others were in agreement with him.

Below are some comments gathered by DAILY POST from Facebook in reaction to the curses:

@Chekim ” The same statements and curses since over 20 years now, yet none have come to pass. Maybe, we should stop cursing because God is too merciful.”

@Abedibb “Oyedepo uses the bible that is the pillar of Christianity. Jesus might not do same but that doesn’t make it wrong. Elisha and Elijah did worst to their enemies as instructed by God. So leave Jesus out of this.”

@Elijahagunbiade “From whom did he learn this? Not from my Lord and savior Jesus Christ. When Jesus was on the cross suffering for the sins He did not commit, He did not curse anyone but asked the father to forgive them for they did not know what the were doing.”

@Chimatempleservant “Whatever that is happening to all the clergymen now, Nnamdi Kanu has been there without anyone altering or condemn it, except IPOB so they should deal with the new level.”

@Udoka “We all prayed in Shiloh the other time saying is who we want that will go for the presidency, during Buhari’s first tenure, the last time I checked Buhari is still there even preparing for the third tenure.

@Emeka Innocentatiant “Tithes pastor, because this one is a living faith pastor that is why you are now talking, what about all the killing in the past years? you never say anything, money pastor.”

@ChineduOnyeme “The heat in Nigeria is now touching both the poor and riches.”

@Lincol “Lay curses with which mouth, na God him be, abeg. Na wetin or na so him Bible or Jesus tell am to do.”
