Victims of demolished structure situated along Yakubu Gowon way, Kaduna, have expressed dismay over the development.
One of the aggrieved land owners, Alhaji Abubakar Aliyu Muhammed, said the decision to demolish their property by the state government was inhuman, adding that, “all my ground rents were being paid yearly and I have my Certificate of Occupancy, yet my property was demolished.”
Another victim affected by the demolition, Chief Eze Aba, said, “This morning we woke up to see two bulldozers and hilux vehicle ‘KASUPDA’ on our site and nobody told us where they came from, we only saw them demolishing our properties.
“We applied for building structure approval from KASUPDA since last year, made all necessary payments but they refused to bring the approval from government.”
When asked if all the affected persons were compensated prior to the demolition exercise, Musa Babale Rilwan, a victim said there was no compensation made by the government, stressing, “The land belongs to my father who owns it for the past 20 years.”
Meanwhile, KASUPDA official incharge of the demolition declined to make comments.
When asked for the rationale behind the exercise, he said, “I don’t know. I have nothing to say, if you have any question, you have to go to our office to make further enquiry.”
