Oversee training: How Osun council chairmen were allegedly scammed

Reports have emerged on how the 67 newly elected council chairmen in Osun State were allegedly defrauded to the tune of N20.1m (Twenty million, one hundred thousand naira) by a political ally of Governor Rauf Aregbesola.

DAILY POST gathered that all the chairmen of the council, upon their emergence, were compelled to cough out a sum of N300,000 (Three hundred thousand naira) each for an oversee training.

It was discovered that one Albert Adeyemi, who is a political ally of Governor Rauf Aregbesola, and a Contractor in the state was the facilitator of the oversee training.

The source, however said that all the council chairmen were denied visa upon their arrival at the embassy, which made them to return to Osun, utterly disappointed.

The council helmsmen therefore demanded for the refund of their money after the aborted journey, but to no avail.

According to one of the chairmen, who spoke to our reporter on the condition of anonymity, Adeyemi thereafter became very elusive.

“We feel we have been shortchanged by Mr Albert Adeyemi; the money he collected from us was not government’s money, we coughed out this money from our personal pockets, as government made the oversee training compulsory upon our resumption.

“In fact, the money was collected from us at the instance of the State Treasurer of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Mr Segun Olanibi, and both men have refused to refund our hard-earned money.

“The government is aware of this and kept mute as if nothing is happening; this is a fraud of high magnitude; more so, when this is coming from the government circle.”

When Mr Albert Adeyemi was contacted, he refused to speak on the issue, and demanded to know the source of the information.

“Who reported me to you, who is the person. Anyway, I don’t have any business with you, it is the person that gave you information that I have issues to sort out with.

“You can go ahead to publish whatever you want, I don’t care”, Adeyemi said.

Meanwhile, all efforts to get the APC state Treasurer on phone proved abortive, as his mobile phone was switched off.
