Over-speeding vehicle kills highway sweeper in Lagos


A highway sweeper under the employ of the Lagos State Waste Management Authority, LAWMA, was Wednesday reportedly killed when a fast approaching vehicle knocked her off the Third Mainland Bridge.

DAILY POST gathered that the accident occurred at about 11 am behind Kam Salem House, the Police Headquarters annex at the Obalende.

According to eyewitnesses, the victim, simply identified as Bisi by her colleagues, was flung into the air and thrown over the bridge to the ground when the vehicle had a bust tyre.

The driver of the vehicle, alleged to be military personnel, was said to be over speeding when his tyre burst and the vehicle somersaulted severally.

It was learnt that the unconscious military personnel was taken to the nearby Military Hospital in Ikoyi in a ‘Keke Marwa’ by his colleagues.

An official of the Lagos State Transport Management Authority, LASTMA, speaking anonymously, confirmed that the owner of the Peugeot 407 car was on speed when the tyre burst.

The corpse, as at press time, was covered with cellophane wrapping and cloth while her colleagues awaited their managers to arrive the scene of the accident.
