Over 4,000 job vacancies available in Plateau Civil Service – Head of Service

The Plateau State Head of Service, Mr Izam Azi, on Tuesday said there are over 4, 000 vacancies available in the State’s Civil Service and that the absence of manpower was affecting the output of service.

Azi disclosed this while fielding questions from journalists at the monthly media briefing organized by the State’s Ministry of Information and Communication, in Jos.

According to him, “At the moment, we have an embargo on employment in the State that is yet to be lifted.

“We are still working on the BVN of staff as well as the physical verification of workers in the State. I believe that when we are able to conclude this assignments, the issue of employment would be looked into.

“But in the meantime, my office has started generating the number of vacant positions in the ministries, departments and agencies; and so far, we have collected from 44 MDAs a total of 4, 798 vacant positions that are available. Because on a daily basis, people are retiring, because we have over 70 MDAs and we are still expecting the other MDAs to respond.

“I believe that this government will look into this issue of employment, because even in the Civil Service now we lack key man power.”

In his earlier remarks, the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Mallam Muhammad Nazif, said, “The office of the Head of Service in conjunction with the Civil Service Commission, have processed and released the promotion of 5,858 civil servants.”

Nazif added that the Teachers Service Commission in the State has also promoted 1, 067 teachers.

“The office of the Head of Service is also facilitating the implementation of the new Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) which is expected to address the problems associated with the old system,” he said.

He further stated that a Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, was recently signed with the Federal Mortgage Bank to enable civil servants apply for a N1million House Renovation Loan at a minimal interest.
