Over 25 passengers kidnapped along Birnin Gwari-Funtua road

About 25 persons were on Thursday kidnapped along Birnin-Gwari-Funtua road. Sources said the kidnappers struck between Kiryoyi and Maganda villages of Birnin-Gwari local government area of Kaduna state.

The kidnappers, according to sources, stopped vehicles carrying passengers and ordered the people into the bush.

Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, in Birnin-Gwari, Danladi Duniya, confirmed the incident, saying, “I am not in a position to say precisely the number of people abducted, but they are many. May be 25 or more than that. I cannot not say, but all passengers in the vehicles were abducted.

“They stopped five vehicles, one of the drivers who was driving a VW Golf car managed to escape. This is what we go through on the road and we are pleading with the authorities to help us address this problem.

“People cannot go to farm and they cannot travel, this is too bad for people to find themselves in this type of situation when people daily have to go out and look for their daily means of livelihood.”

Efforts to confirm the story from the spokesman of the Kaduna State Police Command, Aliyu Mukhtar, was unsuccessful as he did not pick calls put across to his phone. Neither did he replied a text message sent to him.

But sources maintained that up to 25 passengers traveling along the Birnin-Gwari road in about five vehicles were kidnapped.
