A truck laden with petroleum products, which belongs to the Nigeria National Petroleum Cooperation, NNPC, has crushed a motorcycle operator popularly known as “Okada rider” to death in Akure, the Ondo State capital.
The accident, which claimed the live of the okada rider on the spot, occurred at the popular Iye-Oma junction in Alagbaka area of the state capital.
It was gathered that the truck, which was coming from an end of the Oba Adesida road, rammed into the Okada rider due to alleged brake failure while approaching the Oba-Ile axis of the road.
An eyewitness, who is also an Okada rider by name: Femi, told DAILY POST that the deceased identified as Kayode Esan, who hailed from Ita-Ogbolu in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State, was trying to avoid the tanker when he was hit by the truck.
The eyewitness, who was visibly shaking at the scene of the accident, stated that the deceased recently got married.
The accident caused gridlock at Alagbaka area of the city as other Okada riders tried to set the truck ablaze, but were prevented through the quick intervention of security operatives who were called in to calm the already heightened tension.
Meanwhile, men of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, have evacuated the corpse as at the time of filing this report, as well as put under control the traffic which was on standstill for hours as a result of the accident.
