The Minister of State for Trade and Investment, Dr Samuel Ortom has dismissed the assertion of the New PDP that Nigeria’s economy was in shambles.
The Minister described the statement as mere political propaganda and gimmicks of detractors to pull down the Jonathan presidency.
Speaking at a stewardship briefing for leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party in Abuja, the Minister said the economy was not in danger and that adjustments are ongoing to correct recent issues within the economy.
His words, “The economy is doing well . Those allegations are mere gimmicks to pull us down as the economy is under internationally reputable technocrat led by the Finance Minister.”
He said all indices of the economy still show that it is on course, stating that in foreign direct investment, Nigeria still leads Africa despite decline from 8.1 to 7. 1.
He said the economy is growing but admitted that more jobs needed to be created to meet the expectations of job seekers.
On whether security challenges are presently affecting investment, the Minister said there was no correlation between the situation and investment rates, adding that no investor has ever given insecurity as a reason for not investing in Nigeria.
