The Osun state Police Command, Friday, arraigned no fewer than six suspected cultists from St. Marks Anglican High School and Adenle Middle School in Osogbo before an Oshogbo Magistrate Court.
The accused persons, according to reports, were arrested on 7th December for causing breach of peace by disturbing school activities of the school and attacking their teachers with cutlasses and clubs on the said date at St. Marks Anglican High School, Osogbo.
Also, they were reportedly accused of invading the school premises and allegedly chased their teachers with guns, causing commotion in the schools.
The Police Prosecutor, Taiwo Adegoke, who said the accused persons were all aged 18, listed their names as Adegbite Femi, Ajibola Toheeb, Atoyebi Nurudeen, Adewunmi Olusegun, Adepoju Yusuf and Ganiyu Sodiq.
According to the charge sheet prepared against them to which the accused persons pleaded not guilty, they were said to have committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 517(d) and 249(d) of the Criminal Code Cap 34, Vol. II, Law of Osun State of Nigeria, 2003.
The charges read in part: “That you (accused persons) and others now at large on 7th day of December, 2015 at St. Marks Anglican High School, Osogbo in the Osogbo Magisterial District did conspire together to commit misdemeanor to wit, conducted likely to cause breach of the peace by disturbing the school activities.
“That you (accused persons) and others now at large at the same date, time and place aforementioned did conduct yourselves in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace by disturbing the school activities with sticks and cutlasses.”
The Magistrate, Mrs. Adejumoke Olowolagba, granted the accused persons bail in the sum of N200, 000 with two sureties each in like sum, ordering that one of the sureties must provide tax clearance certificate.
Olowolagba adjourned the case till 15th February, 2016 for trial.
