Osun rerun: Police arrest party supporters with charms, fake observers

The police have nabbed three people who are confirmed to be party supporters at a polling booth in Adewale street, Ward 5, unit 17 Alekuwodo, in Osogbo Local Government Area, for allegedly being in possession of charms and PVCs belonging to other polling units.

The affected persons, a woman and two middle-aged men were first apprehended by party agents, who claimed the individuals were not registered voters in the unit.

Security operatives later intervened and whisked them away, which brought the situation under control.

Also, the police have also arrested some supporters of a particular political party in the state for possessing assorted charms and Indian hemp at a polling unit in Osogbo.

In the same vein, the Police Public Relations Officer in Osun, SP Folashade Odoro in a press statement signed and made available to newsmen said 16 persons who were in possession of illegal customised INEC observer’s tags, faze caps, and jackets were arrested.

According to Odoro ” The Nigeria Police Force is committed to discharging its responsibilities of ensuring the peaceful conclusion of Osun 2018 Gubernatorial Election, that was declared inconclusive by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in which Thursday 27th September 2018 was fixed for the re-run in the Seven (7) Polling units.

“Police team on stop and search duties at Orolu; intercepted vehicles with sixteen persons on board in possession of customized INEC tags, faze cap and jackets with the inscription of “INEC Osun 2018 Election Observer” and PDP membership cards.

“The suspects are using the items to have easy access to restricted areas meant for personnel with due accreditation.

“The Nigeria Police Force wishes to debunk report that some accredited INEC Observers were arrested or denied access to polling units.

“Therefore, assuring the good people of Osun State and other critical stakeholders of its renewed commitment and resolve to ensure adequate security for a free and fair re-run election while investigation continues”.
