The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, continued its rebuilding efforts yesterday with the convocation of PDP Rejuvenation Summit in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, with a resolution to collectively work hard to reposition the party and return it to winning ways both at the national and state levels.

The party also rejected the appointment of Hajia Amina Zakari as the Acting Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

The summit that brought party chieftains and members together, was attended by the representative of the National Secretary of the party, Prof. Wale Oladipo, who charged members to put their grievances behind and work for genuine reconciliation.

According to Prof. Oladipo, the party was on the path of recovery, demanding sincere efforts to reconcile aggrieved members.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Lekan Ayantunji, on behalf of Oladipo, assured members that the party will not suffer more defections but will soon start receiving defectors from other parties.

In their separate remarks, former chairman, Federal Road Maintenance Agency, FERMA, Dr. Jide Adeniji and Hon. Dosu Ladipo, said indiscipline and lack of dedication have been negatively affecting the PDP.

Other speakers at the summit harped on the need for the Osun State chapter of the party to embark on far reaching reconciliation to bring back all aggrieved party members into the fold.

The communiqué issued after the summit said the Osun State chapter of the PDP noted “the nefarious activities of an extra-constitutional outfit called “State Boys” that are being used to terrorize the citizens.

“We also associate with the war against insurgency and corruption by President Mohammadu Buhari, but we insist that it must be holistic and not selective.

“In the spirit of democratic ethos, Mr. President should ensure that all election petition tribunals should function freely and transparently.

“We also condemn and reject the appointment of Alhaja Amina Bala Zakari as the acting INEC chairman.”

Speaking with newsmen after the summit, one of the conveners, Barrister Kayode Oduoye, said the meeting was convened to find credible solutions to the crisis in the party.

According to him, most meetings before now have always been about what the leaders and elders want but “we decided that ordinary members of the party must have their way and I think we have achieved that today”.

Oduoye however pleaded with party faithful to keep hope alive because a new dawn is around the corner.
